Soundscapes of Nature

,

June 29

On Sunday morning, Matthew Patterson Curry contributed a spatialized sound installation set in the space between the temple and the temple gate. This installation created an immersive auditory experience that complemented the natural environment, allowing the audience to engage with the sounds of the temple grounds in a new and contemplative way. The positioning of the installation between architectural elements highlighted the integration of art, space, and nature.

Matthew Patterson Curry also presented a four-channel surround sound ambient music piece that blended synthesized bird, frog, and insect sounds with the natural audio landscape of the temple grounds. This interplay of synthetic and organic sounds invited the audience to contemplate the layers of silence and sound, challenging their perceptions of what constituted ‘natural’ versus ‘created’ sound. Curry’s work aimed to blur the boundaries between art and nature, emphasizing interconnectedness and an expanded sense of listening.
