Tara Mei Smith of Extra Terrestrial Projects led a meditation and environmental awareness workshop during Ontopo's retreat in the Sian Ka’an Bioreserve, meaning “origin of sky” in Mayan. Held at Xlahpak temple, also known as “The Watch of the Lake,” participants gathered for a meditative session to foster cultural and ecological understanding. This program highlighted the region's role in storing approximately 50% of Mexico’s annual carbon emissions in the mangrove roots, intertwining cultural heritage and environmental conservation. The ambient soundscape and tactile sensations contributed to a profound sense of stillness and reflection. This unique intersection of cultural heritage and ecological awareness aimed to deepen participants' connection to both nature and history.
