Todd Sines is an electronic musician, producer, and digital artist who has moved between techno, house, ambient, and audiovisual work since the late 1980s. Trained at The Ohio State University (BFA; graduate study in art, design, and sound synthesis under Stockhausen-lineage composer Thomas Wells), he co-founded the pioneering art-techno series ele_mental and has taught at Pratt Institute. He records primarily as .xtrak, among other aliases.
Approach. Sines works from a largely analog studio — tape, sequencers, synths, DIY instruments — folding post-punk, industrial, and hip-hop roots into stripped-down electronic funk that ranges from minimal techno to ambient drone, alongside a long career in film, VFX, and projection. At Ontopo's Tulum retreat he performed live ambient/drone soundtracks for ceremony with Monty Luke; at Catskill Zendo he demonstrated synesthesia and biofeedback in music.
Selected. Releases on Planet E, Peacefrog, 7th City, and YORE; performances at MoMA PS1 Warm Up, Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and Tresor Berlin.
