Sayler / Morris

Sayler/Morris is the collaborative duo of Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris, who work in photography, video, writing, and installation to examine humanity's changing relationship to nature. In 2006 they founded The Canary Project, producing art and media about climate change, extinction, and water; they are based in Hudson and Brooklyn and direct The Canary Lab at Syracuse University.

Approach. Their work is place-based and grounded in historical research, testing what art can do as a form of ecological consciousness and social practice.

Selected. Water Gold Soil: The American River (book, 2019, with an essay by Elizabeth Kolbert); the ongoing series A History of the Future (2005– ); a 2023 Guggenheim Fellowship. They presented work at Ontopo's 2019 Catskill Zendo retreat and Upstate Art Weekend.
