
Amy Yao is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York City and Los Angeles, known for her work in sculpture, installation, and performance. Her practice explores themes such as environmental issues, identity, and consumer culture. Yao earned her MFA from Yale University and a BFA from Art Center College of Design. She has exhibited internationally, including solo shows at 47 Canal in New York, The Power Station in Dallas, and Mathew Gallery in Berlin. Yao has also curated projects and participated in prominent group exhibitions worldwide.
Recent. Yao is represented by Various Small Fires (Los Angeles) and 47 Canal (New York), where she presented the solo exhibition AZN Clam in 2025; she teaches at Princeton. In the 1990s she co-founded the riot-grrrl band Emily's Sassy Lime with her sister Wendy Yao.
